Guide

What this tool does

It does the three things people usually need in one go: change the size of a picture, make the file smaller in KB, and change the format (JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF). Drop one picture or up to 30, pick the settings once, and download them one by one or all together as a ZIP. The before and after sit on top of each other, so you can drag the line and see what changed.

Everything happens in your browser. Your pictures are not uploaded to us or anywhere else, and they are not stored. The share link only carries your settings, never a picture. The new files also lose their hidden photo details, like the place a phone photo was taken and the camera's name.

Pixels, KB and centimetres

These are three different things, and mixing them up is the usual cause of trouble.

Pixels are how many dots the picture has, like 4000 × 3000. This decides how sharp it looks on screen. KB (or MB) is how big the file is. It depends on the pixels, but also on the format and the quality. Centimetres or inches only matter for printing: a picture has no size in cm until you say how many dots go in each inch (dpi). At 300 dpi, a 35 × 45 mm photo needs 413 × 531 pixels.

So "make it 50 KB" and "make it 600 pixels wide" are different requests. This tool lets you set both: the size in step 2 and the file size in step 3.

Why "under 50 KB" sometimes needs fewer pixels

Under a size first tries good quality and checks the file. If it is too big, it lowers the quality step by step and keeps the best one that fits. A 4000 × 3000 phone photo often can't reach 50 KB at any decent quality, so the tool then makes the pixels smaller too, and tells you the size it used. For a small KB limit, a size like 600 or 800 px wide usually looks better than the same pixels at very low quality.

We aim under 1,000 bytes per KB, not 1,024, so the file passes forms that count either way.

JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF

JPG suits photos and is accepted everywhere: use it for forms and email. PNG keeps every pixel and can be see-through, so it suits logos, screenshots and text, but photos in PNG are large. WebP is smaller than JPG for the same look, can be see-through, and opens in every current browser, which makes it the best choice for websites. AVIF is smaller still, but some older apps and forms don't take it. The tool only shows the formats your browser can write.

A JPG can't be see-through. When a picture with see-through parts becomes a JPG, those parts turn white, or the colour you choose under Background colour.

Crop, rotate and the right shape

Sizes like 1080 × 1080 have a different shape from a phone photo. With Keep the shape off, you choose what happens: Crop to fill cuts the edges (you can move the crop with Crop and rotate), Fit inside keeps the whole picture and fills the sides with a colour, and Stretch squashes it, which is rarely what you want.

An example

Divya runs a tuition centre in Kallakurichi and in 2026 she is putting together admission photos and a few classroom pictures for her website. A college form wants a 35 × 45 mm photo under 50 KB. She picks Photo 35 × 45 mm, moves the crop so the face is centred, chooses Under a size → 50 KB, and gets a 413 × 531 px JPG of about 40 KB. For the website she drops 12 classroom photos at once, chooses Longest side 1600 and WebP, and downloads them as one ZIP: 38 MB of photos become about 3 MB.

Questions

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. Your browser reads, resizes and saves them on your device. Nothing is sent to Elathi or anyone else, and nothing is stored. You can even switch off the internet after the page has loaded.

How do I make a photo under 50 KB?

In step 3 choose Under a size, then 50 KB. The tool finds the best quality that fits and, if needed, makes the picture smaller in pixels. It tells you exactly what it did.

How do I resize a photo in cm or mm?

Choose Width × height, then the unit mm, cm or inch, and type the size. Pixels are worked out at 300 dpi; change it if your form asks for another resolution.

Can I resize many pictures at once?

Yes, up to 30. Drop them all, choose the settings once, then use Download all (ZIP). The table under the tool shows every picture before and after.

Why is my PNG still big?

PNG keeps every pixel, so quality settings don't shrink it. For a photo, choose JPG or WebP. For a logo or screenshot, a smaller size in pixels helps most.

Will the picture lose quality?

Making it smaller in pixels removes detail you mostly won't see on screen. Balanced is hard to tell apart from the original; drag the line on the picture or use Look closer to check before you download.

Can it open iPhone HEIC photos?

Only in browsers that can open HEIC, like Safari. Elsewhere, set the iPhone camera to Most Compatible or share the photo as JPG first.
