- Your Lo Shu grid has no 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and repeats 1, 5, 9. Tradition reads a missing number as a quality to build, not a lack.
- Numerologists often set a mobile or vehicle number beside your Moolank. Add one: it stays in your browser.
- Thinking about a spelling? Compare two side by side and see which name numbers change.

Guide
What numerology is
Numerology is a tradition that gives meaning to numbers worked out from your date of birth and your name. It has roots in ancient Babylon (the Chaldean system), in the school of Pythagoras in Greece, and in Indian practice, where the numbers 1 to 9 are linked with the nine grahas. It is a belief system, not a science: no study has shown that a number shapes a life. Many people still enjoy it as a way to think about themselves, and in India it is often asked about for baby names, shop names and mobile numbers. This free tool shows every number with its working, so you can check it by hand.
The birth-date numbers
- Moolank (root or psychic number) is the day you were born, reduced to one digit. Born on the 15th: 1 + 5 = 6.
- Bhagyank (destiny or life path) uses the whole date. Reduce the month, the day and the year separately, then add them and reduce again. For 15 August 1995: month 8, day 6, year 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 = 24 → 6; 8 + 6 + 6 = 20 → 2.
- Master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are kept as they are, by tradition.
The birth-date numbers are the same in every system.
The name numbers
Every letter has a number. Destiny (expression) adds all the letters of your name, soul urge only the vowels (A, E, I, O, U), and personality only the consonants; this tool counts Y as a consonant. Two letter systems are in use:
| System | How letters are numbered | Where it is common |
|---|---|---|
| Chaldean | 1 to 8 by sound (A 1, B 2, F 8, O 7…), never 9 | India, name correction |
| Pythagorean | the alphabet 1 to 9 in turn (A 1 … I 9, J 1…) | Western books and apps |
The same name gives different numbers in the two systems, so pick one and stay with it. Switch on Letter by letter to see the value of every letter.
The Lo Shu grid
The Lo Shu grid is a 3 × 3 square from Chinese tradition, with the numbers placed so every row, column and diagonal adds to 15 (4 9 2 · 3 5 7 · 8 1 6). Write each digit of your birth date into its box and leave out the zeros: 15-08-1995 puts two 1s, two 5s, one 8 and two 9s in the grid, and leaves 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 empty. Practitioners read the empty boxes as qualities to work on and the repeated ones as strong. Some also add the Moolank and Bhagyank into the grid; this tool uses the date digits only, as the simplest form does.
Planet, day and colours
Indian numerology links each Moolank with a planet: 1 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars. Books in the Cheiro tradition add a lucky day and colours for each. Different books give slightly different days and colours; the tool shows one common table.
Shankaran Pillai names his shop
Shankaran Pillai of Tirunelveli was opening a provision store in 2026 and could not decide between “Pillai Stores” and “Pillai Store”. He typed both into Compare a spelling. The Chaldean destiny changed from one number to another, his life path did not, and he chose the name his customers would remember. He kept the tool’s working on his phone so he could explain the numbers to his family, and he checked his new shop mobile number for fun with Number check.
Mobile and vehicle numbers
For a mobile, vehicle or house number, numerologists add all the digits and reduce them to one, then compare it with your Moolank or life path. A match is said to be “in tune”. Vehicle registrations such as TN 32 AB 1234 are usually read by their digits only. The number you type stays in your browser and is not put in the share link.
Common mistakes
- Mixing systems. A Chaldean name number and a Pythagorean one can’t be compared.
- Reducing too early. Reduce month, day and year first, then add: adding all eight digits at once can lose a master number.
- Using a nickname for destiny. Tradition uses the full name; try both and compare.
- Changing a name for luck. It is a personal choice, and there is no evidence that it changes anything.

Questions
What is the difference between Moolank and Bhagyank?
Moolank comes from the day of the month you were born, reduced to one digit. Bhagyank (life path) comes from the whole date of birth. Born 15 August 1995: Moolank 6, Bhagyank 2.
Which is better, Chaldean or Pythagorean numerology?
Neither is more correct; they are two traditions. Chaldean is more common in India and in name correction, Pythagorean in Western books and apps. Use one and stay with it.
What is a Lo Shu grid?
A 3 × 3 square (4 9 2, 3 5 7, 8 1 6) where each digit of your birth date goes into its box. Empty boxes are read as qualities to build, repeated ones as strengths. Zeros are left out.
How do I check my mobile number in numerology?
Add all its digits and reduce the sum to one digit, then compare it with your Moolank or life path. Turn on Number check: the tool does it in your browser and leaves the number out of the share link.
What are master numbers?
11, 22 and 33. Tradition keeps them instead of reducing them, so a life path of 11 is not read as 2. They are said to carry the qualities of the single digit more strongly.
Should I change the spelling of my name?
That is your choice, but there is no scientific evidence that a spelling changes luck. Compare spellings here for interest, and keep the name that feels like you.
