The ancient architecture has its own significance, since it can be considered an important landmark for human civilization. Throughout history, a vast array of architectural styles have been created, each one designed as per their cultural, environmental and social circumstances. In today’s world, some of the most notable designs include the Taj Mahal, Acropolis, Acropolis museum, and many others; which were not only stunning architectural works of arts in themselves, but for the civilization they stood for.

Ancient Indian Architecture.

In India, it is easy to see that the architecture has evolved along with a history of its people – the architecture of India has evolved from a primitive form to a more developed form over time, and was adopted by different cultures. It is the oldest form and most ancient architectural form, which has been adopted by the people of India. Some of the most important facts regarding this culture are the following;

It was the first to achieve a standard for all parts of India. It has achieved an independence in architecture and is very well known. The most prominent form of ancient Indian architecture is the Shore Temple; it has a pyramid shape that has a square base.

The most prominent ancient temples of India are:

  • Chola temples
  • Mundeshwari Temple
  • Jain temples
  • Buddhist monasteries
  • Jain monasteries
  • Hindu temples

Ancient Egyptian Architecture.

Another form of architectural history in Ancient Egypt was their design of many pyramids; these structures have the same form for many years of their establishment as a pyramid, and is the oldest architectural design of the architecture of Egypt. Also, there have been many achievements during these histories of ancient Egyptians;

  • Ancient Egyptian buildings often include columns.
  • They are the oldest monumental stone buildings.
  • It was the first architectural building in the world.
  • They are well-defined and very attractive.
  • They have the most prominent example of a mausoleum.

The most prominent ancient Egyptian architectural works of arts are:

  • Giza pyramid
  • Great pyramid
  • Lighthouse of Alexandria

Ancient Indian Architecture VS. Ancient Egyptian Architecture.

Even despite these forms of architectural history, there are some differences in the features, which have been implemented. These architectural features were used so that each country had its own standards and features that helped to make each country different.

The following are the differences between Egypt and India in the architectural aspects:

  • Egypt’s form of pyramids are tall and thin, while India’s pyramids are short and wide.
  • In India, there were more than 1,000 monuments, while Egypt only had 30.
  • The ancient temples of India are better known than the temples of Egypt.
  • India and Egypt had similar architecture styles, but the Egyptian ones were better.
  • The most ancient temples of India have unique features, while that of Egypt’s temples have various features.

The architectural history between India and Egypt was not much different. A difference of 4,000 years separate the oldest architectural form of both countries. It can be seen that both these countries had completely different architectural features. This is due to the difference in their cultures and lifestyles.


It can be concluded that both Ancient Egypt and ancient Hindu civilization had their ancient architecture. However, even though architecture has its similarities and differences, its ancient temples were not only unique forms of construction, but were also used to help religion and gods in their rituals. They both represented power and prestige of both countries. Since these buildings were so well known the world over, architects were inspired to create similar buildings for their benefit.
