How do we judge an architect?

how do we judge an architect?
How do we judge an architect

Introduction.

There is no one definitive answer to this question. Different people will have different criteria for judging an architect, and there is no single right or wrong way to go about it. However, some factors that you may want to consider when judging an architect include their experience, education, and portfolio. You may also want to look at the projects they have worked on in the past and see if they align with your own personal taste. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide what factors are most important to you and use those to help you judge an architect.

What factors influence our opinion of them?

Aesthetics

Many people judge an architect based on their visual aesthetics. It is difficult to ignore the beauty of a well-designed building, and there is never a shortage of people who feel strongly about an architect’s appearance. To many, a good architect has the aesthetic sense of a fine-art painter. You might also value the aesthetics of a project based on its use of space and materials or the way in which it responds to its environment. Perhaps you value the aesthetics of a project because it has an appealing appearance, whether or not it is pleasing to the eye.

Education

A good architect will usually have a degree in the discipline and will often have taken relevant courses in architecture while in school. The more formal education an architect has attained, the more experience they are likely to have. Architecture is not a science or a mechanical skill, and therefore, many different approaches to architectural design are possible. However, you will find that many talented architects with advanced degrees in their field also know a significant amount about design concepts and other design fields.

Personal experience

You can probably already tell by looking at their portfolio whether an architect has had much experience or has a limited portfolio. Having experience in the field will allow an architect to make more accurate assumptions about the design process, and they may have developed an approach for themselves that works well for certain types of projects. If they lack experience, they may take more risks and try new methods. It is difficult to determine the level of experience that is needed for an architect to be considered successful. Architects are often referred to as a self-selecting group, and what they put out into the field is usually representative of their level of experience.

Does our opinion of them change over time?

While you can look at an architect’s work and judge them based on their style or aesthetic, you can also evaluate their talent and ability from a historical view. This will help you understand whether your current view is right or wrong for the reasons you cited and whether they are making good or bad decisions or decisions based on the wrong principles.

What do we think of their work?

The quality of a building’s design influences its aesthetic appearance. However, it is not always the most beautiful building that is architecturally remarkable. The design of a building is typically a balance between practicality and esthetic appeal. If you want to know how an architect thinks about this balance, you can ask them. What you will find is that a good architect can be practical, creative, and esthetic at the same time.
The style of a building also affects its esthetic appearance. For example, the style of a building can be a reflection of the architect’s personality. Does the architect have a style in their work or is it consistent? In the case of a successful architect, we may believe that they know exactly how to design a building so that its aesthetics will be enhanced by its materials, structure, and spatial arrangement. If the architect is successful, their aesthetic should always be top-notch. If not, then it should be explained why they didn’t achieve top-notch design and we should understand what they did that was wrong.

Does our opinion of them change over time?

It is not uncommon for people’s opinions about an architect to change over time. While you may still feel the same way that you did when they first earned your respect, it can be hard to appreciate a new project or building at first. This is not unusual. In time, you might see that the project you admired was made better and that the architect became one of your favorite architects. You may also see that an architect’s good work is now overpriced or is simply no longer made. Of course, your reaction can be very different if you dislike an architect because they are a “dipso lunkhead.”

How important are their aesthetics to us?

As you have already seen, aesthetics play a large role in your opinion about architects. However, you should never judge an architect by aesthetics alone. Aesthetics are only one part of design; an architect must be able to design and develop a suitable structure for the intended purpose, and it is that aspect of their architecture that gives it its value. You may or may not agree with the design of a particular building or project. You may like or dislike the architect’s work, and you may also find it difficult to understand why people find it appealing. However, that does not mean your opinion about an architect or building is invalid or is wrong: your opinion should be based on your own values, not someone else’s, and it certainly should not be negative.
Aesthetics are just one part of an architect’s body of work. You will only make a good judgment about an architect when you try to understand the design concepts, style, and methods that they use.

How do we feel about their personality?

This question is subjective, but you can make a good argument for how it is important. Most architects have at least some personality, and if they are successful, you will find that they are also charming. Your personal preference may differ here, but you probably don’t want to know the personality of every architect that you’ve ever hired. That is not likely to be a good idea.

What if we don’t like their work but they’re a nice person?

This question doesn’t have an automatic answer. Sometimes you may find that the project that you don’t like is done by a great architect who is also a nice person, and then you are inclined to think of him in a positive light. However, it is easy in this situation to make assumptions about them that are not accurate. If you like them for their personality, you should be happy to have found them. However, if you don’t like them, then you should feel no obligation to associate your opinion of their work with your opinion of them. It may be that you don’t like them because they are a jerk, but if that is the case, you need to think about what it is in their work that you don’t like.

What if we love their work but they’re a jerk?

It is certainly understandable that when working with a designer or architect you may develop a positive association with that person. They may even be nice to you personally as well as to those whom they are directly involved with. You might find yourself thinking that they are a creative and efficient person, and that they have made positive contributions to your life and/or company. If you are comfortable with your connection to them, you don’t have to think much about the fact that they have been a bad person. However, you should be aware of the fact that everyone has made bad decisions, and you have no way of knowing whether you are actually a better person than a person who is a jerk.

Conclusion – what really matters to us?

In the end, it is important to remember that your opinion of an architect should never be negative. There is no point in doing so, and you will simply hurt someone’s feelings. If you are truly concerned that they are a jerk, you should speak to them honestly about your concerns and explain your own feelings.

If you are looking for an architect, then you should consider looking for architects whose work you like. You will not be disappointed if you hire an architect that you can really get along with. It is more than just an architect’s visual aesthetics that you need to judge based on, and if you do not find a good match, you will wish that you had found a different one. It is not as if you need to be looking for the perfect match. You simply need to find someone who is interesting and who you can work with. That alone can make a difference.
